UT-Martin Game Time Announced, etc…
The Vols will play the 2010 season opener against the UT-Martin Skyhawks on September 4th. The University of Tennessee Athletic Department announced that Derek Dooley’s opening act as UT’s Head Coach will begin at 6:00 P.M. EST. The game will be available on Pay Per View. This is the Vols first FCS opponent since The Citadel in 1983. A lower level opponent is exactly what the new look Vols need for their opening game before welcoming Oregon to Neyland Stadium. As we all know, there will be some suspensions from VolBrawl2010, and most will probably be served during this game. However, the Vols can’t take the Skyhawks for granted, especially since memories of Wyoming aren’t too distant.
TWO VOLS NAMED PRE-SEASON ALL SEC
Senior leaders Luke Stocker and Chris Walker were named to the Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC 2nd Team. Stocker and Walker have been model Vols in a pre-season full of turmoil. Let’s hope Dooley will fill our team with players of the caliber, on and off the field, of Stocker and Walker.
I’ll go ahead and be the first say I’m so glad this game is at six and not noon. Vols vs. UT Martin in the blazing September afternoon sun? No. Thanks. so good for us.
Am I a bad fan for basing my attendance decision on game time?
For a cupcake game: no.
Phocion, I’m afraid for the next 2-3 years there will be no cupcake games for Tennessee.
I have no doubt that Phocion is going to find a way to argue with you over whether this is a cupcake game or not.
Let’s keep it real. No UT fan hopes Dooley fills their team with high character players. They hope, just as bama fans do with their program, that he wins. And if he brings a couple low talent players in with character as they are winning, everyone can focus on those kids, write stories, exagerate their accomplishments, etc. to make the program appear clean – see Florida Gators and Tim Tebow.
Fact is everyone thought Myles was a sure thing – great talent, great family. What truth does that leave us with? Is UT so far gone they turn good kids bad or is it always the kids fault? or the police departments fault? or the refs fault? or Fulmers fault? Whatever happened to personal responsibility starting with the program? Until UT stops blaming players and pointing fingers outside the program, nothing will change. The atmosphere and attitude around the football program has created this mess. If UT was 10 – 3 last year would Kiffen still be there? If so would this be swept under the rug as fans prepared for their SEC East championship while you sing the praises of Kiffen the great? Isn’t it time to stop hating coaches or player after the fact and take those orange colored glasses off so you can identify issues in the present. You demand character from players when the program is down but what example is set by the leaders and support of the program itself? If you allow yourself to answer honest would you rather see wins or character?
I dont think anyone is fully blaming the players, and I believe most Vol fans believe its the attitude surrounding the program itself. Dooley is working to change that and has implemented the Vol4Life Program, which has brought back former Vols of great character. We’ve discussed this before on the blog.
I’m not “demanding” character from the players, I just stated I would like to see more leaders of those players caliber.
Wins with lawlessness eventually leads to failure. I want to see a mix of wins and character.

this is breaking news i dont were iels to put it. alabama is under investigation. julio jones and marck baron were both contaqcting agents last year.lets hope they dont take away the national championship
Marcel Dareus is also under investigation. Fortunatly for Alabama, the University is not trying to hide the wrongdoing and is cooperating fully with the NCAA. It looks as if Nick Saban has finally managed to change the culture in Tuscaloosca.
I won’t be in attendance because the Athletic Department is hosing us for being grandfathered in. They are asking for extra money in order to attend four of the home games, of which this is one. They can suck it. I’ll see you guys at Florida, Bama, Ole Piss, and Oregon
